History of Keg Ball

Keg ball is a game with a very blurry history. In fact, no one knows exactly when the first game was played. This is due, in large part, to the amount of alcohol that is consumed while people are playing. Here are some of the most popular accepted theories about how keg ball got started.
Frat house soccer
One common theory is that a frat house simply decided to purchase a keg and play soccer. When they got the keg, they realized that they did not have a soccer ball or a soccer field in the vicinity. Instead, they decided to play kick ball. In the process of playing, they got disgruntled at the idea of leaving the field to drink, so they made the decision to keep their drinks with them while they were playing.
Sorority hazing
Another idea about the birth of keg ball, similar to the theory mentioned previously, is that a group of sorority girls were playing kickball and using glasses of beer as an initiation or hazing ritual for their new pledges. Spilling a beer meant that the offending girl had to drink another beer.
The fun game of keg ball most likely originated with inventive, drunk college students; no one is sure. It is likely impossible to determine exactly where it came from. However, it has grown in popularity, and a great many inebriated people still play without knowing where the game originated.
